When I first started working with metal I created a lot of mezuzot. The Hebrew letter Shin is most often depicted on the mezuzah– it stands for Shaddai which is the nurturing and protective aspects of G-d. I became fascinated with the letter– it’s beautiful shape and some of it’s other symbolic meanings. I felt it was a letter that could easily be spiritual, inspired by nature, and universal at the same time. Shin is the first letter in the Shalom, which means peace, Sh’ma to hear in your heart, and Shekkina– the feminine presence of God. This piece was one of my first designs and I still love it.
