Shoah Aliyah Placeholder

$98.00

The act of being called upon to read from the Torah in front of a congregation is called an aliyah: an ascent or instance of rising. When one receives the honor of being called upon to read from the Torah, the Rabbi, Cantor or spiritual leader uses this art to hold the place of the next reading.

The simple design of the yellow star is in honor of the Jewish people  who were forced to wear yellow stars as a Nazi concentration camp badge on their sleeves during the Holocaust.  The cut out shape inside the star is of the Hebrew letter shin, which in this case stands for “Shoah” that means Holocaust.

A layer of gripping rubber helps hold the piece in place on the slanted table or “bimah” that the Torah rests on. It makes an amazing gift for Rabbis, Congregations, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, anyone who chants Torah or teaches Torah or the Holocaust.  It is also a meaningful gift given just before a Bar or Bat-Mitzvah, particularly if the family is descended from Holocaust survivors.  The outer dimensions of this piece is 2.75″ x 2.25″ and the inside shin cut-out is about .75″ x 1.25″.

10% from the retail price of this piece will benefit Jewish Family and Children’s Services Holocaust Center in San Francisco.
